Q&A with our Technical Production Manager

ANDREA GRECO – As a technical production manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing production processes to ensure operational efficiency, product quality, and timely delivery.

WHY DOES PRECISION MATTER SO MUCH IN YACHT BUILDING?

Precision is absolutely essential in yacht building because a yacht is a highly engineered product where every millimeter plays a role in performance, safety, and comfort. As a leading yacht builder, we work with complex systems-propulsion, electrical networks, composites, carpentry, hydraulics—that all need to align perfectly. Even a small inaccuracy can affect weight distribution, vibration levels, or fuel efficiency. Precision also ensures that interiors fit flawlessly, technical spaces remain accessible, and every luxury detail meets the expectations of an owner investing in a high-end vessel. In the end, precision is what transforms a yacht from a simple structure into a high-performing, reliable, and beautifully crafted luxury yacht.

WHAT DOES A SHIPYARD REALLY SOUND LIKE?

A shipyard has a very distinctive rhythm. It’s a combination of engineering activity and craftsmanship, all happening simultaneously. You hear the hum of machinery, the echo of metalwork, the sanding of hull surfaces, and the coordinated work of teams fitting components into place. It’s not noise for the sake of noise—it’s the sound of progress. Each sound represents a different stage of yacht construction, from structural assembly to technical installations and fine carpentry. For many of us, the shipyard’s soundscape is the heartbeat of the yacht builder: it tells you exactly where a project stands and reminds you that you’re contributing to something extraordinary being built.

WHAT ARE THE KEY STAGES OF A YACHT CONSTRUCTION YOU MANGE AS A PART OF YOUR WORK IN A LEADING YACHT BUILDER?

As Technical Production Manager in a leading yacht builder, I oversee the entire progression of the yacht from its structural creation to its final sea trials. The process begins with the construction of the hull and superstructure, which form the backbone of the vessel and determine its strength, balance, and long-term performance. Once the structure is complete, we move into the phase where all major technical systems are installed—propulsion, electrical networks, hydraulics, electronics, and every component that ensures the yacht operates safely and efficiently. After the technical integration, the focus shifts to outfitting and interiors. This is where craftsmanship takes center stage, with teams installing furniture, cabinetry, insulation, and all the finishes that define the yacht’s aesthetic identity. Throughout this phase, technical and interior works progress in parallel, requiring careful coordination to ensure everything fits perfectly within tight tolerances. Once the yacht is fully assembled, we conduct a series of in-depth tests on every system, validating performance, safety, and reliability. The final stage is the sea trial, where the yacht is tested in real navigation conditions to confirm that it meets the standards expected from a luxury yacht builder. Managing these stages ensures a smooth production flow and guarantees that the final yacht reflects the quality, precision, and innovation our clients expect.

WHAT IS SOMETHING PEOPLE DONT’T USUALLY REALIZE ABOUT YACHT CONSTRUCTION?

People often imagine yacht construction as a traditional craft—and while craftsmanship is very important, they don’t always realize how technically advanced the process has become.
A modern yacht is closer to a floating technological ecosystem than a simple vessel. It integrates automation systems, custom engineering, advanced materials, and precision-built interiors—all within extremely tight spatial tolerances. Another thing people overlook is the level of coordination involved. Dozens of specialized teams work simultaneously, all following a detailed production plan. The shipyard functions almost like a small city, with every activity synchronized to keep the project on schedule. In short, yacht construction is a blend of cutting-edge engineering, specialized workmanship, and meticulous project coordination, far more complex than most people imagine.
